Happy Birthday to Me
For my birthday this year I wanted to be in denial about turning 30 eeek!! (Will be the last time I mention it too haha, and luckily no one seems to think I'm that old anyway ;p ). But I also wanted to do something special being a landmark birthday and all…. something that involved Vegas…yup, nothing too extravagant or anything lol. I had always said, I have haven’t been by the time I turn 30 then I want to go there for my birthday.
All busy planning and saving away for what turned into a big US road trip :); then just before my birthday chaos hit and I was made redundant from my job. I wouldn’t normally write about these kind of things on here, but this is real life and I know there are a tone of people that have experience this and know what it’s like. I had planned a birthday dinner, as our trip wasn’t happening until June, but after a few days thinking about everything, I pretty much wanted to cancel my birthday dinner all together as I shouldn’t be spending any more money and the trip couldn’t be cancelled. No one wanted me to, so I decided to have just a small family dinner instead, and I was able to step into a mean-time job while hunting for my version of a real one -gotta do what ya gotta do to pay those bills! *Now I have “I need a dollar” by Aloe Blacc playing in my head!
On my actual birthday which was a weekday, I ended up doing an 11-hour shift so just had pizza and an ice-cream cake with Disney candles... This little pig is happily pleased with her favourite pizza and things pretty much for small children ;p I love balloons and have an obsession with decorations, so my boyfriend Matt spoilt me with a massive 30 and Barbie balloons because I loved her when I was a kid and wanted to incorporate things from when I was little too, hence the Barbie tee and pink lips to tie in with the theme. Even exhausted I still want themes! It was quite amusing hearing about him having to walk through the shopping centre/mall carrying them and someone saying how cute they were but only saw the 3 balloon, so asked if she was turning 3? bahahahhaha #awkward “ahhh no she’s 30.” I also put together the garland and bunting decorations to match for a mini photo wall, and I also made us party hats from the card stock I used for my birthday invitations so it was still fun for when my mum and sister came over.
A few days later we had the official birthday dinner at the Palazzo Versace Buffet Restaurant. Even though it ended up being small, I still wanted to and already had made up the birthday invitations; and I wanted a little something extra for the decorations and to match in with my invitations, so I made some gold glitter vases for the table and had some flower arrangements done up, I also brought some of my balloons. I chose the buffet so it was fancy but still feel like you are getting value for money and people aren’t restricted to what they want to eat. I love it at the Versace and we pretty much ate multiple plates of Morton Bay Bugs and got our moneys worth haha along with the dessert buffet. Yum Yum
My sister Donnah made my birthday cake; birthday cakes are a huge deal to me and I love them elaborate, since I made her 30th cake she wanted to make mine. I did up a mood board as to what I liked and bought a few supplies to help her decorate it from specialty cakes shops, not even kidding, totally OCD to the max, and with huge amounts of pressure she pulled it off!! Tasted amazing too!! Sooo good!! Seriously my favourite cake I’ve ever had!! We were fighting over who got the last piece :) and rationed it out through the week so we got a piece each day. It was nautical themed, to tie in with the invitations and my love for nautical things, with one tier being traditional fruit cake and the other cherry ripe mud cake.
After dinner some of us did some late night glow in the dark bowling, which was awesome as they gave us our own little section and the place has a bar to continue the nights festivities.
