A Tiffany 30th
Pouring over my newly purchased Adriano Zumbo cook book in absolute delight, sister over my shoulder rolling her eyes, not actually expecting me to produce anything out of it. I guess the only thing I’ve ever made in the past were red velvet cupcakes with coconut cream cheese frosting and, well, she never witnessed any of it.
So, branching out from just my usual Christmas cake decorating I set out to surprise her for her 30th Birthday. With Masterchef-like expectations, I got busy making her a Tiffany & Co 2 tiered birthday cake and macaroons. I used a Zumbo recipe for the cake batter, his ‘It Mayo Shock you’ (Japanese Mayonnaise/Raspberries/Chocolate) concoction. It totally works with the fondant and marzipan; however, mentioning the mayonnaise part to people creates some psychological issues. I coloured the fondant with a gel and liquid food colouring and used two types of fondant mixes – regular and modelling. For the macaroon recipe I used Zumbo’s Chocolate and orange one.
It resulted in a few long days of effort, but having no culinary expertise, hopefully inspires someone that when you put your mind to anything, one can achieve miracles.
