A Little Scandinavian ♥
When my sister and I were pint sized our mum used to dress us at Christmas in special dresses she handmade, the hoarder in me still has them :p ; over the years we adopted this ‘special Christmas dress attire’, but nothing was ever quite as cute. Fast forward to Christmas ‘09’ and my sister and I decided that we should make new ones, well, so conveniently in the middle of finals and me being the sweatshop sewing and pattern making slave that is.
We incorporated the same cute pinafore style, with a slight variation on it, and the love heart pockets from our mum’s original design, as well as bringing across our love for Scandinavian stuff. Me being anal down to every last stitch and detail I added a few extra embellishments along the way; it was important that the overall look was traditional but also something that we would wear in public. The boys didn’t miss out either; their look to match is navy t-shirts with beige shorts. We found the t-shirts in Giordano (they were the best quality and at even better prices) and lucky for us they already owned preppy shorts; I sewed on the t-shirts a reindeer appliqué in the same traditional Christmas fabric as our dresses.
This Christmas, the necklace I’m wearing is actually a Royal Doulton crystal ornament in the shape of a heart, its actually quite intricate with smaller hearts. The hair style came about from being a major “Gleek” and was watching repeats of Glee when the Christmas episode came on; Britney had her hair like that in the scene with Sue dressed as the ‘Christmas Grinch’. The plaits had pipe cleaners in them to give stability and achieve the desired shape; I then secured them with a red satin bow clip that I made a while ago. The red ballet flats are Filippo Raphael and the gold sandals are from Gary Castles.
