A celebration for two occasions... A 30th and friends wedding reception
A month later Robert celebrated his 30th birthday and decided to combine it with a wedding reception to include their friends, like a post-elopement party, at a local nursery/cafe. It was quite the unique choice of venue but a perfect fit for the style of the party and continued the rustic theme. Although it was a bittersweet occasion, he spent his actual birthday in the hospital and we originally thought Donnah would be out and able to make an appearance but was stuck in the hospital and having a tough time. They thought about cancelling it, but it became the welcomed distraction for us all and a great night. I took a video of the room so Donnah could see everything anyway.
It was a night of woodfire pizza, wine and a buffet of nibbles and gourmet salads. The cafe was in use and the hot chocolate was really good :), I heard the coffee was too. You bring everything you want to the venue and surprisingly with all the helpers it got put together fabulously and so quick! Robert made the wooden planks for the tables to give it levels and makes the display nicer. There was even a slideshow of the last 10 years of Robert and Laura's memories. I was originally making their cake with Donnah, but with her being out of action, I took one for the team and while being exhausted I made sure I got it done! I didn't end up taking many photos, after the food ones I just wanted to sit down and relax. The speeches were in fine form, especially Robert's, rubbing into his friends that they didn't come to the wedding lol.
A cake for 2 celebrations! I made a 4 tier cake in a rustic/naked cake style. Two tiers of chocolate buttermilk cake and two tiers of coconut cake. Decorated with a vanilla bean cream cheese buttercream, and fresh fruit and flowers. The larger chocolate tier also has morello cherries in the filling. The cake topper is a custom wooden topper that I ordered from Etsy.
The readings from the wedding (both mums read them on the day) and the vows printed in the wedding stationery, were framed and displayed for everyone to see.
Laura's sister, Tania, made some seriously delicious caramello brownies!!
The wood fire pizza set up. They were so yummy and of course dessert pizza was included too. They were very professional and friendly!
In other exciting news, Robert got a cat for his birthday! He had wanted one for years and adopted it from the RSPCA. It had to be specifically a black cat, like the one we had when we were little. It's a boy and he named him Potato; he's so cute! Sadly he is missing a leg and has a bungy tooth that makes him look like a vampire, but it surely is made up for with the love he gets from everyone. Robert added some things to the house to help him get down from places, the way he moves around, he clearly forgets he is missing a leg. He talks about him like he's his first child and we have suggested he gets some therapy from the separation anxiety he gets when he leaves him lol (reminds me of how Will was in Will and Grace when they got a dog).
